On Wednesday, February 24th at Noon, JPR welcomes Australian singer/songwriter Kara Grainger in to the studio for a live performance on Open Air. Kara Grainger blends classic songwriting skills with smooth sultry vocals and firey slide guitar playing. Her music exhibits a sexy and modern take on roots, blues, and soul.
Growing up in Australia, Grainger spent the latter half of the 1990s as lead vovalist and guitarist with the successful Sydney-based blues outfit, Papa Lips, which became a regular fixture and audience favorite at Sydney's premiere music venue, The Basement. Kara's brother, the acclaimed harmonica player Mitch Grainger joined her in that band.
In 2005, Grainger relocated from Sydney to Los Angeles, and recently she has become a fixture at many of the top music festivals in the United States. 2008 saw her as a semi-finalist in the International Songwriting Competition for her song On My Way, and her tune Secret Soul received honorable mention in the Billboard Songwriting Competition last year.
Kara's album, "Grand and Green River," has been played regularly on Open Air, and we're thrilled that she's able to stop by and perform live.
